GYO CHICAGO and lake county participate in Anti-Asian Hate and Bystander Training

On April 17, Catherine (Cat) Shieh, Anti-Hate Training Coordinator from Asian Americans Advancing Justice presented anti-Asian hate and bystander training during the monthly meeting for GYO Chicago and Lake County candidates.

Prior to her role at Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Cat spend the majority of her five-year high school teaching career focused on ethnic studies, emphasizing intersectionality and student-centered learning. Her anti-bias and anti-racism (ABAR) curricula have been piloted in the Los Angeles Unified School District as well as multiple charter schools across California. Cat’s educational, organizing, and social policy journeys are rooted in youth and communities.

Before teaching, Cat worked in non-profit, public, higher education, and corporate consulting sectors, all dedicated to social impact. She also spent time working in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she opened 2 congressional caucuses.

Cat received her B.A. in political science and urban planning from the University of Southern California, and received her M.A. in urban education, administration, and policy from Loyola Marymount University. Cat is an alum of Teach for America, Teach Plus, Association of Raza Educators, and Coro.
