Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch joined GYO-IL staff and partners to celebrate DMTI’s success
Today, GYO-IL held a luncheon to celebrate the Diverse Male Teacher Initiative (DMTI). Guests included Illinois House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch, who spoke about the need to cultivate an "infinite mindset" towards constant improvement in education and opportunity. As Speaker Welch reflected, "We know the gaps in education…when you have an organization or an initiative trying to close those gaps, that’s an infinite game with an infinite mindset. And we have to support that."
As of December 2023, DMTI has served 40 candidates across Illinois, with the following racial/ethnic breakdown: 55% Black or African American, 35% Hispanic/Latinx, and 8% identifying as other.
