A Multi-year Legislative Report Reflects on Our Work and Impact for the Past Four Fiscal Years (2020-2023)
With ongoing investment from the Illinois legislature, GYO-IL consortia programs harness the contributions of higher education, district, and community partners to directly address Illinois’ chronic classroom teacher shortage and the lack of racial diversity in the educator workforce. GYO-IL purposefully recruits candidates from high-need urban and rural areas with significant teacher vacancies, supports them through preparation programs, and returns them to their home communities as fully licensed teachers.

GYO-IL’s growth is due to sustained investment from Illinois and our centralized administration of the GYO grant, which includes collaborating with our consortia to support local candidates.
